AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Class 19 Member Spotlight: Michelle DiPinto

  Name: Michelle DiPinto  Hometown: Burlington, Conn. Michelle is serving as a member of the AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 2 at the Vinton Campus. She first learned about AmeriCorps while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity as part of an alternative spring break where she met AmeriCorps VISTA members. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to make a difference and gain direction for her life after AmeriCorps.

ISU students named to fall semester Dean's List

More than 6,669 Iowa State University undergraduates have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the 2012 fall semester Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. Students are listed below.

William Penn University announces academic honors

William Penn University is pleased to announce that Tracy Lynn Rodman, Atkins and Natalie Jane Reed, Walford, IA has been named to the President's List for the fall 2012 semester. To be included on the President's List, a student must complete at least 12 hours of credit with a minimum grade point average of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. William Penn University was founded by Quakers in 1873 and is located in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Treasurer Fitzgerald has a Vault Full of Treasures for Valentine's Day

While Cupid is busy with his bow, State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald is looking to reunite Iowans this Valentine's Day with their lost treasures. The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt database contains more than one million accounts for individuals all over the state that have lost track of some money or a treasure. "In addition to money, we have safe deposit box contents, which include an assortment of sentimental and heirloom items waiting to be reclaimed," said Fitzgerald.

Luther College Announces 2012 Fall Semester Dean's List

Kevin Kraus, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Luther College, announced the 2012 fall semester Dean's List. Addy Rickels a Luther College senior from Vinton, Iowa, has been named to the 2012 fall semester Dean's List. Rickels is the daughter of Calvin and Michelle Rickels. Audrey Tran Lam a Luther College senior from Vinton, Iowa, has been named to the 2012 fall semester Dean's List.

Aaron Koppen Earns Degree & Named to Fall 2012 President's List

Aaron Koppen of Shellsburg, Iowa graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry. Aaron  was also named to the Fall 2012 President's List at LeTourneau University. Extension offers beef feedlot roundtable

  AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the University of Nebraska are teaming up to offer a feedlot roundtable session at six Iowa locations on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 12:45 to 3:45 p.m. Iowa State Extension beef specialist Russ Euken said the feedlot roundtable sessions are offered annually in Nebraska for feedlot operators and interested agribusiness people.

  Name: Laura Dennis Hometown: Clarkson, Ky. Laura is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 3 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wants to give back to the world around her and help others who are going through disasters and tragedies. She says that a term of national service forces a person to erase the distractions of everyday life and commit fully to the cause.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 19 Team Leader Spotlight: Rebecca Bigler

In January 2013, she began serving a second year in Vinton as the Community Relations Support Team Leader for NCCC’s Class 19. Rebecca will be assisting with recruitment and media outreach in addition to leading teams when needed.
